To address the root causes of extreme poverty, the Foundation is engaged in three types of projects:

WHY WE ARE NECESSARY?

The polarization of wealth and the grossly inequitable distribution of resources is the problem that the Foundation seeks to address.  While this is not a new problem, it has become more acute in recent times.  
The magnitude of the problem is huge.  The more powerful feed upon the powerless.  As a consequence, masses of individuals find themselves marginalized and excluded. Globally, human beings are themselves considered expendable consumer goods to be used and then discarded, thus creating a throw-away culture.  No longer is it simply a matter of exploitation and oppression; it has evolved into something new: exclusion.  

Gilbert SAucedo

President

Gilbert Saucedo is a housing rights lawyer and human rights advocate. After working with the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice he opened his own law practice, focusing on housing rights. He has been an active member of the National Lawyers Guild of Los Angeles since 2009, and was co-president of its Board from 2016 to August of 2022. In November of 2013, he co-founded the Foundation for Economic and Social Justice to address some of the causes of extreme poverty.

He is currently the president of the Foundation. He has also served as legal counsel for the El Sereno Community Land Trust. He actively provides legal and financial support to many grass roots organizations working on social justice issues, and is dedicated to the movements building just an
equitable communities.
