The FOOD COLLECTION PROJECT
The Los Angeles Unified School District, in an effort to avoid discarding excess or unused food served in the district’s meal program, created the “Healthy Students, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities Food Program.” This program donates left-over unused food to needy families and children.
The Foundation helped connect charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army to various schools in the district; namely, Euclid Elementary School, Lorena Elementary School, and other schools in Boyle Heights, so that food can be collected and donated to families or individuals in need of assistance. Typically, the donated food includes individual and packaged items such as fresh fruit, spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, milk, whole wheat bread, and crackers. |
