LEGAL SUPPORT FOR ECONOMIC & SOCIAL JUSTICE

In pursuit of its objective to remove legal barriers and advance social and economic justice, the Foundation also provides support to attorneys who advocate for changes that may result in a more equitable distribution of resources and a fairer society.

The Foundation, in partnership with LAIC, has created the FESJ Litigation Fund to help finance impact litigation when needed to advance important and strategic legal issues. The Foundation and LAIC identify legal issues and teams to undertake strategic and impactful litigation.

The FESJ Litigation Fund provides funding for legal costs, up to $50,000, required to file and advance litigation. The objectives of this project are twofold: (1) to provide financial and legal support to human rights and social justice advocates: and (2) to provide a platform from which to train a new generation of socially conscious lawyers.

To train this new generation of lawyers, the litigation teams shall consist of: (1) at least one attorney who is experienced in the relevant area of the law at issue; (2) at least one attorney who is relatively inexperienced in the area but would like to develop experience in it; and (3) at least one law student.

If you would like to know more about the FESJ Litigation Fund or if you have identified a legal issue that you would like to submit to the Foundation and LAIC for consideration, please contact us.
